But if a person can successfully play this position, they will be satisfied they have helped their team win the game. Defending the goal is the only way to keep the other team from winning. Goalkeepers must keep in mind that they are the last defense between the other team scoring points. Keeping their self-confidence level high is as much the coach’s responsibility as it is the goalkeepers.
Practicing often will help a goalkeeper improve. In addition to learning drills and other positions, a goalkeeper should consider additional training in goalkeeping. This will help them defend the goal to the best of their ability. A goalkeeper may have to practice more often than other players only because they might not have the opportunity to practice during regular sessions. A goalkeeper should be proud of themselves when they save a ball or when they have intimidated other players into making mistakes. Being aggressive and showing other players that they are good a keeping a goal safe is a great psychological defense against the opposing team.
When a goalkeeper knows what they are doing and are aggressive on the field, they will be successful. It is impossible to catch every goal, but when a goalkeeper is doing their job, they will feel satisfied that they did the best job they could for the game they just played.
