Ebrahim Mirzapour;
Iran’s great prospect
Some call Ebrahim Mirzapour lucky; others consider him deserving. But Ebrahim Mirzapour has certainly made it big. After being the
first choice keeper at the AFC Asian Cup 2004, Mirzapour is now the first choice goalkeeper of Iran’s national team. He was elevated to
this prestigious position by the team’s coach, who elbowed a couple of established names in the process, much to the surprise of the game’s
followers in Iran.
Mirzapour did justice to his coach’s confidence by bringing about a couple of great saves in the 2006 World Cup though his team
could not get past the first round. His agility and towering presence under the bars was noticed not only by his Iranian fans but also by a
couple of European clubs.
So far, Mirzapour has played for Iranian clubs only. These include: Foolad FC -- which is his current club and which he captains
also -- Fajr Khoramabad and Bezisti Mamoolan FC. He certainly has talent and should go quite far if he gets the right breaks.
There are a few critics of Mirzapour who feel that the Iranian goalkeeper makes elementary mistakes at times. But these critics
are few. Most regard him as a great Iranian prospect.
